All classrooms are fitted with the latest ICT facilities and interactive white boards. Across the sites we have a purpose-built art room, sports hall, food technology room, science laboratory, design technology room and wood and metal workshops. In January 2020 we opened our Ripon site where there are specific sensory areas and classrooms specifically designed for primary pupils. In May 2017 we opened an additional new teaching block, consisting of three new classrooms, a sensory circuit room, toilets, a calm room and an additional IT suite, this project was funded and managed by the school.
Mowbray School is a leading member of the North Yorkshire Sports Special Partnership and receives yearly visits from professional sports stars through the Sky Sports Living for Sport program.
We also have fully fitted sensory rooms fitted with soft walls and flooring that uses different forms of lighting, fibre optics, bubble tube, sound wall and tactile creative play wall to create different and complementary sensory experiences. Ultra-violet lights enhance the possibilities, with glow-in-the-dark toys and even bubbles!
Mowbray School Children’s and Young Peoples Farm We are especially proud to be the first special school to run our very own working farm within the school grounds of our Bedale site. Starting with a few chickens 15 years ago, we now farm 5.5 acres on which we grow crops and rear a range of livestock, which not only provide produce but are also a highly valuable resource for teaching real vocational skills that lead to further training and real employment opportunities.
