Outdoor Adventure

Pupils take part in a wide range of physical and outdoor education activities, including swimming, canoeing, walking and climbing, as well as learning various physical skills and team games.

Outdoor pursuits and residential visits form an important part of the curriculum, not only because of the physical skills they encourage, but also for the opportunities presented for personal and social development and the development of language skills. These activities also increase pupils’ self-confidence and physical development and encourage working with others.

The outdoor education programme gives all pupils the opportunity to enjoy North Yorkshire’s outstanding natural environment, with pupils participating in kayaking and rafting, climbing, rock scrambling, high- and low-wire activities, team-building exercises, assault courses, walking, mountain biking and nature walks.

The School organises annual residential visits to NYCC Outdoor Education Centres, at Bewerley Park, near Pateley Bridge, and East Barmby near Whitby, plus other other venues in the United Kingdom.  School aims that each child attends a residential visit at some point in their times at Mowbray School.
