Mowbray is a North Yorkshire County Council co-educational special school situated in a lovely rural setting in the market town of Bedale, with a warm and welcoming community of staff and pupils who strive to make each other feel part of our community.
We serve a very large catchment area covering 1,400 square miles from Stockton on Tees to Harrogate, with 194 pupils currently attending from both rural and urban areas, as well as military bases.
What we do: Our school educates and cares for pupils aged three to sixteen years with a statement of Special Educational Needs or an Education Health Care Plan, with a wide range of learning difficulties including:
• Moderate, severe and complex learning difficulties
• Speech, language and communication difficulties
• Physical and sensory impairments
• Social, emotional and behavioural difficulties
• Autistic Spectrum Conditions including Aspergers
Our Facilities: Our school environment is purpose-designed to enable pupils to enjoy their learning in well equipped classrooms, arts, crafts and music rooms, sensory spaces and our fantastic new sports hall, as well as outdoors on our own working farm and nature reserve or further afield on the many exciting and adventurous outward bound activities we organise to help pupils to learn and develop. Life is never dull at Mowbray!
Our Ethos: The school ethos is SURE: achieving ‘Success through Understanding, Respect and Endeavour’. This underpins all learning and values that parents, pupils and staff share and strive to promote and develop here at Mowbray School. In 2013 Ofsted graded Mowbray School ‘’good in all aspects’ with ‘partnerships with parents graded outstanding’. We are also proud to be one of only a select number of schools worldwide to be accredited by the National Autistic Society.
